Quintine is a very capable young teacher and teaches his students well. For instance, Bartlett was offered a job before he had even qualified and we are very proud of his progress. From the very basics of what a computer is and how to switch it on, right through to Power Point Presentations and working with email and internet.

INVESTEC have donated a kitchen to Out of the Box and as soon as it is installed this will be the next course to start running. It will combine wine knowledge and serving too.

Lin is probably the most competent sewing teacher in the country and imparts her knowledge with love and dedication. Beginners are taught to sew straight and at the end of the course are adept at making pillow cases, table cloths, cushion covers and so forth. By the end of the intermediate course they can make a dress, a top, a track suit and so forth. The advanced course teaches them how to adapt patterns, cut patterns, design elements, creating to the point of a tailored suit. Business and life skills are interwoven through each facet of the course. Out of the Box tries very hard to be able to give each graduate a sewing machine and to help them set up their own small business from the centre.

We do not know what to call her class. It is and adventure of learning all the different age old skills. She teaches quilting, embroidery, patchwork, recycling, knitting, crocheting, rug making, candle-wicking, bag making, and much, much more. It is all aimed at helping people to be able to decorate their lives on a shoe string, to learn to make things or change things so that they will sell and put food on the table. While she teaches you to make a computer bag out of old torn jeans, she teaches you how to package it, market it, sell it, account for it and to stretch the profit into further business ventures.

Natasja will turn each and every student into a master of this art. A wonderful way to recycle old tiles, broken crockery, bottles, mirrors and so forth – turn them into master pieces and earn a living...

Thanks to Chemcity and Professor Peet van Schalkwyk, Tshedza Candles was established as a business and is, today, a going concern. Max and her team will gladly create candles for you at very competitive prices. They also teach the skill with love and dedication. Each person is taught how to make candles from scratch. As the course progresses they are taught the basics of a functional candle business, the art of selling and marketing, the importance of packaging and presentation and the art of keeping books and being responsible.

Perfectionist Jimmy has so much knowledge to impart and will stop at nothing to turn the students into perfectionists themselves. He teaches from basic figure carving, to intricate detailed work. Using basic metals like copper and brass he will teach, with ease, the basics of jewellery making. This is a good measure for people who need to establish whether this is the career path they want to follow before enrolling into a long and expensive commitment.

Tony teaches with an unmatchable zest and enthusiasm. Some of the Graduates now run a business from the centre and teach others to become very competent screen printers. They are capable and enthusiastic and would love to print your T-shirts, stickers, caps, pens, etc. for you! Business savvy is taught throughout and is standing them in good stead. Part of the course is learning how to make your own screens at affordable prices and managing a business economically.

Stafford, master teacher, has mastered the weaving of managing a woodworking career or business with such ease. Two of the graduates now work from the centre and are willing and able to make items for you. The course teaches from learning how to saw a piece of wood, to creating dove-tailed cupboards.
